Orchestration and the New York subway system

When talking about and using orchestration there is a tension between just getting things done now and thoroughly modeling the entire system. One complex real-life system that requires a great deal of orchestration is a subway system. In this talk we will look at the orchestration challenges that the New York subway system faced over its history, how they were addressed, and what lessons we might be able to learn from that for orchestrating complex software systems.
